I heard about a great saying recently.

Money is like Oxygen. When you don’t have it, you are dying for it. But when you have it in abundance, there are other important things than money.

And it is true about my life too.

I started my first job in 2020 as a software engineer. And all I wanted was to get promoted and earn more money. At that time I was paid like $500 per month which was a good salary here in Sri Lanka. I worked hard — day and night to complete the given projects. To be honest , I was fresh out from the university and had good amount of energy to go all in. I enjoyed my work but main focus was always get into a high paying job and earn more money. It was always about more, more, and more.

Money felt like Oxygen in this period.

I should tell why I felt that way always. Otherwise it might give a bad impression to the readers. I am coming from a middle class family and my parent were both teachers. I have never seen them earning more than $150 per month (note that this is in Sri Lanka) and were always in debt. Somehow we managed to live a moderate life. But it was quite tough.I think this motivated me always to earn more money and live the life that I dreamed. But I was doing this unconsciously.
